# Equipment status values

Signal tracks one of six equipment status values for every asset. This is separate from an asset's lifecycle state (draft, active, or archived).

### Statuses

| Status | Definition | Color cue |
| ---------------------- | ----------------------------------------------- | --------- |
| **Online** | Available and operating normally. | Green |
| **Offline** | Unavailable or not currently operating. | Red |
| **Out of Service** | Intentionally removed from active service. | Red |
| **Abandoned in Place** | Retired equipment that remains at its location. | Amber |
| **Removed** | Removed from the tracked installation. | Blue |
| **Unknown** | Operating status has not been confirmed. | Amber |

Any status value Signal does not recognize displays and filters as **Unknown**.

On the Dashboard, "operational" means an asset's status is **Online**.

### Notes

* The Empire View map legend groups these into four visual categories: online, "offline or out of service", "abandoned or unknown", and removed.
* You change an asset's status from the **Change Status** action, either on one asset from Asset Detail or on several assets at once from the Empire View bulk action bar.
