# Understand order types

Every product line and variant has an order type, also called build type. Understanding the difference helps you set up lines correctly.

### The two order types

* **Configured**: a standard, catalog configuration ordered as-is.
* **ETO**: engineer-to-order, built to a specific customer's requirements.

A product line can offer both order types. Each variant, though, has exactly one build type.

### Where you see it

* On the line table, the **Order type** column shows a chip for each order type the line offers.
* When you add a product line, the **Order types** field preselects **Configured**. Choose **ETO** as well if the line also covers engineer-to-order work.
* When you add a variant, the **Build type** field defaults to the line's first order type. Choose the other option if this variant is built differently.

### Notes

* This feature may not be enabled for your organization. Ask your Zephyr Intel contact.
