# How Signal maps installed assets to a product line

Signal automatically links installed assets from Empire View to the product line they belong to. You do not link assets by hand.

### How matching works

Each product line carries a match rule. Signal checks assets against your active lines in order and stops at the first line that matches:

1. If the line's match rule lists model codes, an asset matches when its model code is one of them.
2. Otherwise, an asset matches when its brand matches the line's brand, and, if the line's match rule also lists equipment types, the asset's equipment type is one of them too.

An asset is matched to at most one line: the first line, in table order, whose rule fits it, even if more than one line would qualify.

### Assets Mapped

The **Assets Mapped** KPI on the Products page counts every installed asset currently matched to any active line. While your asset catalog is still loading, the KPI shows "catalog syncing…" instead of a count.

* This feature may not be enabled for your organization. Ask your Zephyr Intel contact.
* Signal builds the match rule for a line from the brand and equipment type you enter when you add it. There is no screen to view or edit a line's model codes directly today.
