# What determines what you can see and do

Two colleagues in the same organization can see different menu items and buttons in Signal. This page explains why.

### Overview

What you see depends on three things: your organization, the products your account has, and the permissions your account has been given.

### Your organization

You belong to one organization in Signal. Everything you see, such as equipment, customers and documents, belongs to that organization. Your administrator sets this up when your account is created.

### Products (Signal, Portals)

Signal is one of the products Zephyr Intel offers, alongside Portals. Your account needs the Signal product to sign in to Signal and to perform equipment actions such as changing a status or archiving. If your account only has the Portals product, you cannot sign in to Signal. Ask your administrator to add the Signal product to your account.

### Permissions

Your account also has permissions that control specific actions, such as creating new equipment records or archiving them. If you do not see a button you expect, your account does not have the permission for it. Ask your administrator to grant it.

Permissions are checked strictly. If Signal cannot confirm you have a permission, it hides the control.

### Optional areas

Some areas of Signal, such as Analytics, Products and Visit Planning, can be turned on or off for your organization. If one of these is off for your organization:

* Its menu item does not appear in the sidebar or bottom tabs.
* Opening its page directly sends you back to the Dashboard, with no error message.

If you expect one of these areas and do not see it, ask your Zephyr Intel contact.
