# Change status in bulk

Update the operating status for several assets at once, instead of opening each one.

### Before you begin

If you do not see **Change Status** in the action bar, your account does not have the permission to edit assets. Ask your administrator.

### Steps

1. Select the assets you want to update (see Select rows).
2. Click **Change Status** in the action bar.
3. In the dialog, click the status you want to apply:

| Status             | Description                                    |
| ------------------ | ---------------------------------------------- |
| Online             | Available and operating normally               |
| Offline            | Unavailable or not currently operating         |
| Out of Service     | Intentionally removed from active service      |
| Abandoned in Place | Retired equipment that remains at its location |
| Removed            | Removed from the tracked installation          |
| Unknown            | Operating status has not been confirmed        |

4. Click **Update Status**. The button reads "Updating..." while Signal saves the change.

Signal closes the dialog, clears your selection and refreshes the table when it finishes.

### Notes

* Only the statuses currently used somewhere in your fleet appear as choices. If your fleet has no assets at all, all six statuses appear.
* Change Status is not available when every asset in your selection is archived. Restore them first.
* If the update fails, Signal shows an error message in the dialog so you can try again.
