# Archive and restore assets

Archive assets you no longer track day to day, and restore them later if you need them back.

### Before you begin

If you do not see **Archive** in the action bar, your account does not have the permission to archive assets. If you do not see the **Archived** toggle or **Restore**, your account does not have the permission to promote assets. Ask your administrator.

### Archive assets

1. Select the assets you want to archive (see Select rows).
2. Click **Archive** in the action bar. This button is hidden once every asset in your selection is already archived.
3. In the confirmation dialog, review the count and click **Archive** to confirm, or **Cancel** to back out.

Archiving hides the assets from every view, report and hunting signal in Signal. A user who can promote assets can restore them (see Restore assets below), but they will not appear anywhere until then.

### View archived assets

Click **Archived** in the toolbar to switch the table to show only archived assets instead of active ones. Archived rows appear dimmed.

### Restore assets

1. With the **Archived** toggle on, select the assets you want to bring back.
2. Click **Restore** in the action bar.

Signal restores the assets to active immediately. There is no confirmation step for Restore.

### Notes

* Archiving is a soft delete. No data is removed permanently.
* Turning the **Archived** toggle off again returns you to the normal active list.
