# Create a single asset with the New Asset wizard

Add one asset to Empire View using a three-step guided panel.

### Before you begin

If you do not see **New Asset**, your account does not have the permission to create assets. Ask your administrator.

### Steps

1. Click **New Asset** in the toolbar (shown as **New** on a phone).
2. Fill in the Basic Info step:

| Field | Required | What to enter | Notes |
| -------------- | -------- | --------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

| Asset Name | No | A display name. | Defaults to the serial number if blank. |

| Equipment Type | Yes | Choose from the list. | Only shows types already used in your fleet. |
| Customer | Yes | Choose the customer organization. | |

3. Click **Next**. The button is unavailable for a moment while Signal checks the serial number.
4. Fill in the Location step:

| Field | Required | What to enter | Notes |
| ------------------ | -------- | ---------------------------------------- | -------------------- |
| Status | No | Choose an operating status. | Defaults to Unknown. |
| Facility | No | Type or choose from existing facilities. | |
| Area | No | For example, Unit 3. | |
| Engineer in Charge | No | A name. | |

5. Click **Next**, review your entries on the Review step, then click **Create Asset**.

Signal creates the asset as active. It appears in Empire View, hunting signals and analytics right away.

### Notes

* If the serial number already exists, Signal shows "An asset with this serial number already exists." and keeps you on the Basic Info step until you change it.
* Close the panel with the X button, or press Esc, unless Signal is saving.
