# Find a document

Use search and type filters to narrow a long document list down to the file you need.

### Steps

1. Open **Documents** and stay on the **Documents** tab.
2. Type into the search box. It searches document name, description and serial number. Results update as you type, or press Enter to search immediately.
3. Click a type pill, such as **Manual (12)**, to show only that type. Click more pills to add types to the filter. Click a selected pill again to remove it.
4. Click the **X** in the search box to clear your search term.

### What you see

Each type pill shows the type name and how many documents have it, sorted with the most common type first. Selected pills appear filled in.

When a search or type filter is active, the count above the list changes to "matching documents". If nothing matches, the list shows "No documents match your filters." With no filters and no documents at all, it shows "No documents uploaded yet. Upload your first document to get started."

Click a column heading, such as **Uploaded** or **Type**, to sort the list by that column. The list opens sorted by upload date, newest first.

### Notes

Type filters only cover documents currently loaded in the browser. If a type does not appear as a pill, search by name or description instead.
