# How the Aftermarket Opportunity Score is calculated

Signal scores every asset from 0 to 100 to flag which ones need a call. A higher number means more urgent.

### Overview

The score reflects how urgent it is to reach out about aftermarket parts. Signal bases it on how long ago the customer last bought spare parts for that asset, and how long the asset has been installed.

### Scoring rules

Signal checks two things, in order, and uses the first one that applies.

1. **Recent spare-parts sales.** If the asset has a matched sale, Signal looks at how long ago the most recent one was:

   | Score | When it applies                            |
   | ----- | ------------------------------------------ |
   | 80    | No spare-parts sale in more than 12 months |
   | 60    | Last spare-parts sale 6 to 12 months ago   |
   | 40    | Last spare-parts sale 3 to 6 months ago    |
2. **Install age**, used only when the sales check above did not assign a score, for example when the most recent sale was less than 3 months ago, or the asset has no matched sales at all:

   | Score | When it applies                               |
   | ----- | --------------------------------------------- |
   | 50    | Installed more than 5 years ago (aging asset) |
   | 30    | Installed 3 to 5 years ago                    |

If neither check assigns a score and the asset has never had a matched spare-parts sale, Signal scores it 20, "No spare parts activity on record."

An asset with a spare-parts sale in the last 3 months and a young install date scores 0 and does not appear near the top of the Hunting List.

Each score comes with a short reason, such as "Last spare sale 7 months ago" or "Installed 6 years ago, aging asset." You see the reason as a tooltip on desktop and as inline text on your phone.

### Colors

The score pill is colored by range:

* Red: 60 and above
* Amber: 30 to 59
* Blue: below 30

### Customer-level average

Signal also averages the scores of all of a customer's assets, capped at 100, to give that customer an overall opportunity score. You see this on customer pages, not on the Dashboard itself.
