# Understand account types: distributors vs end users

Signal labels each customer as a distributor or an end user based on how they buy from you. This changes the wording you see for their locations and equipment, and it adds an extra view for distributors.

### Distributor vs end user

* **Distributor**: shows a cyan **Distributor** badge next to the name. Locations are called Offices. Equipment is described as assets served. An additional **End users served** view shows the downstream companies this distributor sells into.
* **End user**: shows an **End user** badge. Locations are called Facilities. Equipment is described as assets installed.
* **Untyped**: if a customer has no account type set, no badge shows, and Signal uses the neutral "Facilities" wording. Untyped customers also do not appear under the **Distributors** or **End users** filter, though they still show under **All types**.

### What changing the type does

On a customer's page, click **Change type** to open the account type dialog. Choose **Distributor** or **End user**; the customer's current type is marked **(current)**. Changing the type only changes labels and which views you see. It does not move any facilities, contacts, or assets. If you change a distributor to an end user, the **End users served** view no longer appears for that customer.

### Where you see it in Signal

The badge appears on customer cards, in the table, and next to the company name on the customer's own page. The wording change appears throughout section headings (Offices vs. Facilities) and in how assets are described (served vs. installed).

### Notes

* There is no option in the Change type dialog to clear a customer's type back to untyped once one has been set.
