# Launch a portal for a customer

Launch a self-service portal for a customer that does not have one yet, and invite the first person who will use it.

### Before you begin

This flow only appears for a customer that does not already have a portal. Most customers already show **Active** and do not need this.

### Steps

1. On the customer's Portal tab, click **Launch Portal for This Customer**.
2. **Confirm Scope**: read the summary, which tells you the portal will show equipment across all of the customer's facilities. Click **Confirm & Create**.
3. **Portal Created**: Signal shows the new portal URL. Click **Invite First User →**.
4. **Invite First User**: enter **Email** and **Name**, choose a **Role** (**Viewer**, **Editor**, or **Admin**; **Editor** is the default), then click **Send Invite**. You can click **Skip for now** instead to finish without inviting anyone yet.

### What you see

After you send the invite, Signal shows **Invitation sent.** and returns you to the start of the flow. You can invite more users from the Portal tab at any time.

### Notes

The first two steps, Confirm Scope and Portal Created, do not save anything on their own. If you click **Skip for now** on the last step instead of sending an invite, no invite goes out; add one later from the Portal tab.

If sending the invite fails, Signal shows the error, or **Failed to send invite. Please try again.**
