# Who can do what on an asset

What you can do on an asset depends on your account's access to Signal for that customer, and on whether your account can edit records. Signal checks this separately for each control, so you may be able to view everything on a page but only change some of it.

### Header actions

The **⋯** menu next to the status badge holds Duplicate, Change status and Archive. Each item only appears when your account has the access it needs:

* **Duplicate** and **Archive** need your account to have access to Signal for this asset's organization.
* **Change status** needs that same access plus editing access.
* The pencil next to the serial number, which opens **Edit Asset Details**, needs editing access.

If none of these are available to you, the **⋯** button is disabled and shows "No actions available" instead of opening a menu.

### Overview tab

The **Edit** link next to the assigned customer needs editing access, and only appears once Signal has loaded at least one customer to assign.

### Technical tab, BOM and documents

The Edit links on the Technical tab cards, and the add, edit, delete and import controls on the BOM & Stock tab and the Documents tab, are available to anyone who can open the page. Signal still checks your access when you submit a change, so a save can fail even though the control was visible. If a save fails with an access error, ask your administrator to confirm your account has editing access for that customer.

### What to do if a control is missing

If you expect to see an action and do not, check with your administrator or your Zephyr Intel contact that your account has editing access for that customer's organization.
