# Edit or delete a part

Update a part's description, quantity, obsolete status or spare flag, or remove it from the BOM.

### Edit a part

1. Hover over the part's row and click the pencil icon, **Edit {part number}**.
2. Update any of the following:
   * **Description**: free text.
   * **Quantity**: a number of 1 or more. A non-numeric entry resets to 1.
   * **Obsolete**: check this box to mark the part obsolete.
   * **Recommended Spare**: check this box to flag the part as a spare worth stocking.
3. If you check **Obsolete**, a **Successor:** field appears. Enter the replacement part number here if one exists. This is optional.
4. Click the save icon to save your changes, or the cancel icon to discard them.

The part number itself cannot be changed from this row.

### Delete a part

1. Hover over the part's row and click the trash icon, **Delete {part number}**.
2. Confirm the browser prompt: `Delete BOM part "{part number}"?`.

The row shows a spinner while the delete is in progress, then disappears from the list.

### Notes

{% hint style="info" %}
On this page, Signal does not show a confirmation message after you save an edit or delete a part. The change still takes effect and the parts list refreshes to show it.
