# Add a part manually

Add a single part to an asset's BOM when you do not have a file to import, or you need to add one part to an existing list.

### Steps

1. On the **BOM & Stock** tab, click **Add Part**. An **Add new part** form opens under the table.
2. Enter the **Part number** field. This is required.
3. Enter a **Description**, if you have one.
4. Enter a quantity. It defaults to 1 and cannot go below 1.
5. Choose where the part sits using the parent list:
   * Leave it as **Top-level part (no parent)** to add the part at the root of the tree.
   * Choose an existing part to nest the new part underneath it. Nested parts are indented and shown as "{part number} — {description}".
6. Click **Add Part**.

### What you see

The button reads "Adding…" while the request is in progress, then "Added". The form turns green, its inputs disable, and it closes. The new row appears in the table and flashes green briefly so you can find it.

A new part is added as an active, current, non-spare part of type Part. You can change any of that afterward from the row's edit controls.

### Notes

If you leave the part number blank, Signal shows "Part number is required." and does not submit the form.
