# Grant products to a user (Elevate)

Grant a user access to Signal, Portals, or both. Use this when a user needs to log in to a product they don't yet have.

Who can do this: staff admin only.

You can do this from either location:

* The **User Management** tab, when a user is selected.
* The **Organization users** card on an organization's page in the **Organizations** tab.

### Steps from User Management

1. Find the user. See [Find a user and read their record](/administration-zephyr-staff/user-management-tab/find-a-user-and-read-their-record.md).
2. In the **Products** section, click a pill (**signal** or **portals**) to turn it on, or type a product key in **Custom product key** and click **Add**.
3. Click **Save changes**.

### Steps from an organization's Organization users card

1. Find the organization. See [Find an organization](/administration-zephyr-staff/organizations-tab/find-an-organization.md).
2. In the **Organization users** card, find the user's row.
3. Type the product key, for example `signal`, in the field next to their name.
4. Click **Elevate**.

### What you see

A message confirms which products were granted, for example **Elevated products: signal**.

### Notes

* Product removal is not supported. If you turn off a product pill in User Management and save, Signal still adds any newly-checked products, but the save message tells you the removed product is still present, for example: "Saved permissions and added products. Note: product removal is not supported by the API yet (still has: portals)."
