# Typed confirmations and safety rails

Some actions in Organization Admin ask you to type a phrase before they take effect. Others do not. This page lists which is which so you know what to expect.

### The typed confirmation pattern

When an action needs a typed confirmation, Signal opens a dialog with a label reading **Type `<value>` to confirm**, where `<value>` is shown in monospace. You must type that value exactly, including case, before the confirm button becomes clickable. The dialog also has a **Cancel** button, and closes if the action fails, showing the error instead.

In every typed confirmation inside Organization Admin, the value you type is the organization's short name, not its display name.

A separate merge tool on Customer Detail, **Merge Customer**, also uses a typed confirmation, but asks for the source customer's name instead of a short name. It is not part of Organization Admin.

### Which destructive actions are not typed

### Notes

* Because typed confirmations use the short name, double-check you are looking at the organization you intend to change before you type it. Two organizations can have similar display names but different short names.
