# Merge organizations

Merge one organization into another, moving its facilities and records to the target organization.

Who can do this: staff admin only.

### Before you begin

Find the organization you want to merge away. See [Find an organization](/administration-zephyr-staff/organizations-tab/find-an-organization.md). This is the source organization; you will merge it into a target you specify by id.

Always run **Preview** before you merge. Merging moves facilities and records into the target organization and marks the source organization **merged**.

### Steps

1. With the source organization loaded, scroll to the **Merge organization** card.
2. Enter the target organization's id in the format `org_...`.
3. Click **Preview**.
4. Review the preview: facilities to move, records to move by type, and any blockers.
5. Click **Merge**.
6. In the confirmation dialog, type the source organization's short name exactly as shown, case-sensitive, then click **Merge** again. If you skipped the preview, the dialog tells you to run one first instead of showing impact numbers.

### What you see

On success, a confirmation message names the target organization id, and Organization Admin clears your current search and selection.

### Notes

* The **Merge** button is not disabled if you skip the preview, only if the target id field is empty.
* This is different from the **Merge** action on a Customer Detail page, which merges one customer of your organization into another and asks for the customer's name, not a short name. See **Merging duplicate customers**.
